Error when Importing Slides from Screen Recording

Aug 30, 2023

Hi,

I'm currently having trouble creating a software sim in Try Mode. I have tried several methods to record my screen... from Story View by right-clicking on the scene and selecting Record Screen and from Slide View by selecting New Slide, Record Screen. No matter which way I try, it results in the same problem.

After I record, I import the slides in an existing scene. In Story View, while it was importing the slides, I noticed that it stacked the slides into the scene in steps (down and to the right), rather than in a straight, vertical fashion. This caused slides to get pushed out of the window pane, as it couldn't fit all 17 slides. Another bizarre thing occurred; as more slides were imported, the little scene boxes in Story View were shrinking in size!

When it was finished importing, I was able to open the first slide in Story View and it did appear to open correctly in Slide view; the first screenshot was showing with Triggers and Layers showing to the right. However, none of the slides were present in the Scenes pane to the left. I didn't touch anything for a few minutes, thinking it was still loading information. But, after a few minutes, I checked back in and I noticed it reverted back to a slide in a different scene that I had been working on previously. So, I went back into Story view to locate the newly recorded slides, but they were nowhere to be found.

I have read the article on what to do when experiencing erratic behavior from SL. I moved my project to my C:drive and uninstalled / reinstalled SL and I am still experiencing these problems.

Thank you,

Sam

Hi Sam,

Happy to help!

I haven't encountered the behavior that you described before. It sounded like you made your screen recordings while your project file was stored on a network drive which may have contributed to the issue. As a troubleshooting step, try re-recording your screen recordings while making sure that your project file is saved somewhere in a local directory on your computer to see if this helps. If you're already working locally when making your recordings, try doing a repair of your Storyline 360 installation to see if this helps.

If the issue persists, please open a case with our support team here for further assistance.
