Essays

Apr 02, 2013

Hello,

I'm looking for a way to store essay-answers. I want the student to be able to see ALL their answers at the end of the course, so the text the typed themselves...

Is there a way to save their answers into word/pdf/... by clicking "submit" or anything?

They don't need to print their answers, just save them somewhere...

Can someone help me with this?

Thanks.

Welcome to E-Learning Heroes, Anton!

First, it's pretty easy to display the essay responses on another slide for the learner to review. Use a data entry box for the student's answers.  When you create one, the value is automatically saved as a variable.  Then on the later slide, display that variable.  Do this by putting a text box on the slide, and then on the "Insert" menu, click the "Reference" button.  You'll be able to select the variable you'd like to display on the slide.

For your second question, I don't believe you'll be able to store the essay responses in a different file type (PDF or Word document). Printing may be the easiest option, but if you're wanting to avoid that you could have an option to email the responses, but that could get a bit complicated. Also, keep in mind that emailing results is not currently supported in Storyline.

Having said that, there are some unsupported methods that other community members have shared for emailing course information. Also, you may be able to do something with JavaScript for this, too, but that would be something you'd need to ask our community JS experts  You may want to consider posting over in our Building Better Courses section, just for some additional exposure. Hopefully some of our community members will be able to give you some advice.

Thanks and good luck with the project!
