Exporting Gifs in Storyline
Nov 02, 2016
Hello~
I've got an issue while working with gifs. I've seen there have been discussions about gifs issues but I haven't seen a discussion with this problem.
Importing and playing gifs works perfectly fine, and even if I preview the slide containing the gif it looks perfect. The issue comes when I export the project; gif looks very low quality, and the color red blinks with white.
On export settings, I set up image quality at 100%, and they still look the same.
Any help or information would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks~

Hi Maggie,
Do you mean when you publish the GIF you're seeing this set up? What publish method are you using (web, LMS, etc.)? Also where are you viewing the published output? Are you viewing it locally or within the intended publish environment? Lastly, did you confirm that you're on the latest update of Storyline 2 Update 11?
Hi Maggie,
GIFs are actually converted to SWF when imported and re-converted to GIF for the HTML5 output.
When you watch the Flash version, you get some JPEG compression even at 100% (red shows artifacts). HTML5 is more faithful but much bigger than original.
Hi Ashley, thanks for your reply!
Yes! Only in the published output.
I'm publishing with the LMS method, and I view the output in Chrome, locally. About the version, just installed Articulate on September, so I definitely got the latest version.
Hi Maggie,
Pierre also mentioned some artifacting (and he's likely a better expert on GIFs than me!) but if you're only viewing it locally I will always recommend testing it in the intended environment as well and ensuring you're using a browser that'll support Flash or HTML5 as detailed here.
Hi everyone!
Here's a side by side comparison :
Hi Pierre,
Thanks for sharing those images here. I can see what you've pointed out, and if memory serves me correct I believe it was an issue you discussed with our Support team before? I know that typically for these issues it's always something our team will want to take a look at the actual gif file and test it out in Storyline and a few different devices, as in this older thread it's not always something we can easily replicate.
