Fade effect option "From Top" animating differently for different users

Mar 14, 2017

In Storyline 2 I'm using the Fade In and Fade Out animations on a caption with the options to come in from the top and out toward the bottom. On my and most of my coworkers' computers it looks as intended with a short movement down as it fades in and then another short movement down as it fades out. When I view it on one particular colleague's computer the movement is much bigger, flying in from the top of the slide and out clear to the bottom.

It doesn't seem to matter whether it's published or not, or on whose computer it was published; whenever this colleague opens either a copy of my Storyline file on her computer or views the course on our network after I've published and uploaded it from my computer, these animations are different between our computers.

Has anyone else seen this kind of variability using these options? I know I could get the desired effect using a fade and motion path together, I was just surprised that there would be this dramatic difference between users and I'm not going to be able to let it go until I figure out what's going on.

(NOTE: I cannot upload an example due to company policy restrictions)

That's really strange, Matt! Thanks for letting us know what's going on. Is it possible that your colleague is working from somewhere other than the local C: drive?  Working from a network drive or a USB drive can cause a few different problems, and you can read more about that here. Also, do you know if your colleague is using the most up-to-date version of Storyline 2 here?

I completely understand you not being able to share the file publicly in the forums, but you also have the option to send it to our Support Engineers privately here. They keep all files confidential and are happy to sign an NDA, if you would like. If you do decide to open a case, let me know your case number so I can follow along. :)
