Fail & Repeat question type. How to realise that?

Mar 04, 2019

Hey everyone,

I need to ask for help. I am about to build a LMS and am trying to set up that scenario:

- User gets instant feedback on each slide / question
- if answer = wrong then repeat slide / question, else go to next slide / question

IMPORTANT: There will be always the VERY FIRST attempt to be kept for score. The other attemps should only make the user think about the actual topic but they don't really count for the all up result.

I need to apply that scenarion to ~ 400 slides / questions. Any ideas how to realize that and get a nice workflow going?

I am looking forward finding a solution.

All the best.

Hi Sascha!

Storyline's quiz feature allows you to set multiple attempts for each quiz question. You can also customize the feedback the learner will see if they get the question incorrect.

The tricky part is using the learner's first attempt at the quiz question for the score. You'll need a little creativity to make this work!

One idea is to duplicate the quiz so you have 2 copies of every question. If the learner gets the question incorrect, the Try Again button will bring the learner to the copy of the question. They can try again, but their answer will not count toward the final score. Only the first answer on the original question will count.

Does that make sense? Let me know if that would work for what you're looking to do!

Hey Alyssa,

thanks a lot for your quick help. I do understand your idea behind the duplicated slides. But I don't know how to handle the settings when a user answers correctly. In that case the user would need to skip the duplicated slide. And there is another fact I forgot to mention - I am working with question banks only. Each and every Slide needs to be shuffled.

To make it short - attached I am sending you an exemplary project file. Would you mind applying the mentioned needs to that one and send it back? I would really appreciate that a lot.

All the best from Berlin, Germany.
