Feedback layers - flashing briefly and then moving to next slide without the continue/next button being clicked

Jun 09, 2022

Hi all

I really hope that someone can help withs this problem asap as I am on quite a short deadline and the design of this course depends on the quiz slide/layers working as expected.

When I preview each quiz slide on its own everything works as expected - that is the feedback layer is shown and nothing else happens until the user clicks the continue button.  However, when I preview all of the slides together only the last one in the scene displays properly.  The previous quiz slides briefly flashes the feedback layer and jump to the next next.

I have attached a file with just two slides where you can see this happen.

Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Kind regards

Jen

Jen,

I believe the problem here is that you're not using the built-in feedback feature. In Form View, notice that you have Feedback set to By Choice; however, the feedback fields are blank. When the interaction is submitted, Storyline sees that there is no feedback to display so, while your Show Layer triggers are firing to display your custom feedback layers, once the Submit Multiple Choice trigger is activated, Storyline jumps to the next question. You can confirm this by disabling or deleting the Submit Multiple Choice trigger. Your Show Layer triggers are above the Submit trigger on the base layer so they fire first; that's why you momentarily see your custom feedback layer before the slide auto-advances to the next question.

Based on the triggers you have set up, it looks like you are compiling the score manually. If you are not using a regular Results slide, you shouldn't need the Submit Multiple Choice trigger. But if you are using Storyline's Results slide, you may need to rework the feedback layers so that they use the built-in Feedback feature. You can use the Feedback Master to display the feedback any way you like.

Hi Steve

You are my hero!

A big thank you for your prompt and detailed response. What you have said makes sense.  I am compiling manual scoring as I also have drag and drop slides with partial scoring so unable to use the build-in scoring.  I have removed the submit multiple choice trigger and it works a treat.

Your assistance has saved the day.

Kind regards

Jen
