File size decrease

Apr 16, 2020

Hi guys,

I've been working on the same file for 3 weeks now. Almost only text and icons. I make manual copies and have 155 so far (yes, I don't trust SL autosave option that much ;)). First copy when I started working on the document was 19MB then while building increased to 30MB. Then I duplicated 1 scene with 10 slides in it and saved it. Now the file is 12MB. Summarising 100 slides = 30MB, 110 slides = 12MB. I didn't delete a single thing. Could anyone explain this phenomenon? Thank you in advance.

Hi Jacek,

Thanks for contacting us to share what you are experiencing with your file size.

Why is my file size decreasing if I've deleted nothing?

Are you re-using assets across your project? The Media Library management helps keep the size down.

As you're working, a project file might not immediately shrink in size. Storyline keeps assets temporarily even when you delete them in case you need to click Undo to restore them. The good news is your project file will eventually shrink, usually after saving it a couple of times. But you can also get it to shrink right away by saving and closing the project file, then re-opening it and saving it again.

Please be sure that you're working on your local drive, typically your C: Drive, with your software, project files, and assets. If you think you really have a phenomenon or items are actually missing, please contact our team here.
