Filling placeholder text on layer on slide using master layout

Apr 07, 2023

Hello. I'm wondering how to access the placeholder text that's on a layer on slide a master layout that contains the layers.

The base layer gives instructions, and each layer should display a different question when the user clicks on its trigger. These questions will be different on every slide, but since I will use the same functionality and aesthetics every time, I was hoping to use a master layout to make this more seamless.

I haven't been able to figure out how to edit the placeholder text, or (even view the layers in slide view) once I apply this layout to a slide. The slide functions as expected, but I don't know how to add the content. Is this impossible?

MWE attached below.

The purpose of the master is to save time if you are putting the same thing on each slide (or layer). That means you can't access a layer on a slide master any way except the development work you do in the Master view, and any triggers that are on the slide master.

In this case, the text placeholder itself is the only recurring item. Create a layer master with a text box on it, and format it the way you want. Then on the slides that need them, add a layer and put the text in it.

Just for fun, check the sample for a way to have a layer on the slide master, and have it change on each slide. It's fun, but I think more work than just creating layers on each slide.

Hi Walt,

What a clever solution! I actually think this might be exactly what I need. In this case, each scene gets published separately, and there is only one reflection slide per scene, so I can re-use the same variables throughout the project by just copy-and-pasting those triggers onto each instance of this slide.

I'll need to try this out more thoroughly by publishing and implementing a couple samples, but I think this might work.

Thanks so much!
