Font size not working correctly

Feb 06, 2013

My fonts are changing to increments of .5 [for example, if I set it to 20, it changes to 19.5 immediately]. I have no way of correcting this, as it always goes back to the .5 increment. I have verified my Win 7 system is set to 96 DPI, and my zoom is set to 100%. The font is Avenir, which I am required to use to meet company branding compliance. This all seemed to start when I had to redevelop a Storyline project to a new size (from 773x580 to 980x580). When I initially resized the project, it distorted all the text and placed images. So I've been pasting text boxes and supporting graphics from the old, smaller version to a new version that is the correct size. Now the text won't retain the size initially specified; it keeps flipping to the next smallest or largest .5 increment [14 becomes 14.5 or 20 changes to 19.5]. When I try to manually build the text boxes, I have the same problems. Help!

Hi Vaughn,

I haven't used that font. Is it an OpenType font? If you're using OpenType (OTF) fonts in Articulate Storyline, you may find that text doesn't look right when you preview or publish. Storyline supports OpenType fonts. However, a Microsoft Windows update released December 11, 2012 prevents OpenType fonts from rendering properly.

We provided a programmatic workaround for this issue in Update 2 for Storyline. Please review this article for more information.
Let us know if the font size works properly after following the steps in that article.
Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for the advice, but as it turns out, we can't uninstall that MS Windows update, as it is a patch that fixes a previous issue of not being able to see the Avenir font at all in Flash, as well as provides a mission-critical security plug that prevents infected PDFs from being downloaded. I was told but my fellow developer, Rothrock, who worked this out last summer in the SL forums apparently (see: http://community.articulate.com/forums/t/17422.aspx), that all Storyline projects have a bug of resizing the fonts to .5 increments when  changed to a size other than the default.

So we just live with it for the time being.
