Forcing quiz retry to show the same random questions

Nov 15, 2013

Hi again

Is there a way to force each quiz retry to show the same bunch of randomly selected questions?  I have a bank of 50 questions, of which 15 are displayed.  The problem at present is that SL's default behaviour is to draw  another random 15 questions each time the learner hits Retry.  Never been an issue in the past, but this time it as the client specifically wants it done this way.

I guess I could do it with variables but rolling out changes to 50 slides is a fair bit of work unless there's a quicker/easier method?

Any ideas?

Thanks

Thinking about it I can't see how this can be done with variables because you can't control which questions will reappear on each Retry.  I've looked at having each question skip to the next one if it's already been called, but this can result in not enough questions being asked with each Retry.  Hmm.

Maybe if I trigger a variable for each slide that gets displayed >  create a duplicate bank of questions > have Retry Quiz point to this bank (instead of the original) > have each quiz slide display only if its duplicate (in original bank) was displayed, ie no need for any random section, just sequential checking .,..  that could work methinks ... but might restrict number of retries to only one ...

EDIT: nope, that doesn't work because the Results slide (namely the Results.ScorePercent doesn't carry over from the first bank into the second.
