Forcing the iPad player app into full screen mode

Jul 24, 2014

Hi all,

I was wondering if there is a way of forcing a Storyline module into full screen mode in the iPad player app?

I'm trying to achieve the same effect when you pinch out when viewing a module and make the "< Library" and back and next buttons disappear.

Can this be achieved with a trigger or a publish setting?

Any help is much appreciated.

Cheers.

Hi Simpson,

You can use the gestures within the mobile player, although not within the HTML5 content. The gestures that are available (including a full screen option) are listed here. There isn't a way to set up gestures as a publish setting or trigger though.

Thanks for your help Ashley

Hi Ashley
I found this thread whilst trying to discover how to make iPad content appear at full screen.

I note that the current Articulate website shows iPad content filling the screen. Also, demo content on the Cursim website also appears not to have the player interface/border.

Can you tell me if the content on your site required 'pinching' before being featured, or is there now a publishing setting that can be invoked to do this automatically?

Hi Martin,

Is there a specific piece of content on our site that you're referring to? As Michael mentioned there is no "fullscreen" option within publishing, but the reverse pinch is a method you can use to see the content full screen. I'm not familiar with Cursim, but if it has no player interface, I'm guessing you're viewing the HTML5 content and maybe they made it with a chromeless player?

Hi Ashley
Many thanks for this, was not aware of Chromeless player and will look into this.

Here is a link to the Articulate site:

Cursim was introduced to me by the sales person at Omniplex that we are working with. Apparently they are part of your group and specialise in content production and consultancy for Articulate products.

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the link to the examples you were referring to. I don't know that those are available for download anywhere, but is the reverse pinch not allowing you to see your courses within a "fullscreen" mode as mentioned?

I'm not familiar with Cursim, but if they have resources and examples you're able to use, great! The more the better. :-)

Hi Ashley
Yes - reverse pinch does work but is hard to convey this to users.

Your suggestion for Chromeless Player is spot on! This at least creates the illusion of full screen (you can still reverse pinch of required).

I strongly believe that a 'naked' publishing option for SL2 should be considered as this will allow developers to create 'app-like experiences on various devices and to be more creative about navigation.

Thanks for your help on this - Chromeless works well.

I could see a "naked" publishing option or player option being a good feature request! You'll want to share your thoughts using this form as that goes directly to our product development team.

Glad Chromeless works well for now! It may help to provide some tips to your users at the start of the course if they're not "mobile savvy" such as reverse pinch, that Safari scroll bars don't appear until you start scrolling, etc.  Here is a listing of the gestures that will work within the mobile player.

Hi Erez,

What iOS are you using? I also have an iPad mini, so if you'd like to share a link to the course I can test it on my own as I'm running the latest iOS.  You can include it here in a forum reply and you'll also want to make sure you've published with the latest update of Storyline 2 per the documented issue here with launching earlier content in iOS9.
