Format Painter flaw

Aug 16, 2018

As a follow up to the Reset Slide not working, here's another thread about the oversight of Format Painter.

Select a choice, then Format Shape > Text Box. Set Left, Internal Margin to 20px to give some space between the checkbox and choice text.

Now with 10 questions, 40 choices, double-click Format Painter to style the other 39.

It doesn't work. Format painter won't copy the Internal Margins of choices. It will copy font size, color.  Like Reset Slide, it does some things, not others.

Bug or Feature Request?

Hi Sam,

This question was posted initially to our team in the Beta, but since it's happening in Storyline 360 Update 18, I moved the discussion here. I hope you don't mind; I wanted to ensure that you were receiving answers, help and that any other users who are running into similar situations would see it too.

I followed your directions (thanks for those - very precise!), and I saw what you're describing. I did also notice that the format painter is changing a standard text box. What is concerning was some wonky behavior with the format painter on the question choices that I captured in this Peek video, even odder than what you mentioned! Definitely looks like a bug within another bug, so I'll report it to my team, and they'll dig in.

I know how busy you are, so I appreciate you taking the time to report everything you find. You're always welcome to share those details, files, etc. here in ELH or sync up with our Support Engineers here. Our goal is to build a product you love, and it's valuable insight like yours that helps.

If you need anything else, don't hesitate to reach out. 😀

Hi Ashley,

That's a reasonable workaround and it stems from how changing states are handled.

I'm guessing, but... need to look at states and whether changing margins on a "selected" choice changes all states for that choice or just the selected state.

Next evaluate whether format painter changes only the state showing or all states.

Hi, Sam. Katie here now! ☺️

Circling back on the other half of the discussion: the format painter will change states on an object, as long as they are built-in states–disabled, hover, visited to name a few. This will not apply to custom states, even if the names match.

Hope that helps, and let us know if you have any more questions!

Hi Sam,

Good news! We fixed the issue you reported where there were issues with how the format painter didn't work on answer choices for adjusting margins.

Install the latest Storyline 360 update to take advantage of all the recent features and fixes. Here's how.

If the problem happens again, please record a Peek 360 screencast for me, and I'll be happy to help!
