Formatting output text of Text Entry fields?

I have several Text Entry Fields in my project, but am having issues formatting the output text.
I'm creating a mini simulation, and wish to match the text the user enters to that of the actual program I'm mimicing. The only way to do this that I've found is to have text preexisting along the lines of "type here" or whatever the default is, and to format that text.
Ideally however, I'd like to not have any text, to accurately simulate the real environment they'll use.
I can't help but feel I'm missing something very simple here - any suggestions?

Hi a mac,
You can delete the text. Then click on the text entry boxes borders to highlight the box and format as desired. For example, red text, Lucida handwriting font, shape fill grey.
what you dont want to then do is click back in it after formatting it or it will switch format, I find that locking it after setting the format helps
This could be the problem.
What I noticed was it kept defaulting back to Articulate / 21.5 / black.
I'll try your suggestion Phil - thanks!
Tx for the "add-on" tip, Phil! Good one.
That's what I was doing wrong - I was attempting to "preview" my text, and it was force resetting it.
Thanks both for the quick responses.
Hey a mac,
Just a quick note that you CAN preview it (maybe I'm misunderstanding). If you lock it the way Phil suggested, it won't revert back even if you click outside it.
