freeform question - cannot retry upon lesson relaunch
Sep 16, 2014
Hi Community,
I have an issue that has come up in my lesson testing. I have a few freeform questions which occurs a few times within the lesson. These are NOT the quiz questions. The learner must attempt any quiz question, 1 attempt, and they are scored. These free form questions are allowed to be skipped, and do not have any scoring. I assumed everything was perfect. I have a buttons as my last screen to "restart lesson" or "retake the quiz" or "review quiz" or "print results". If "restart lesson" is clicked the learner can click every screen... BUT cannot answer any freeform question. The scored quiz questions are fine. I have searched and can't find any infromation on this issue, does anyone know about this?
As a last note, under story view, I have tried all threee options without fixing this
"Automatically decide", "Reset to initial state", "Resume saved state".

Hi Vanessa,
For your questions, are the user's clicking on a submit button to "verify" and commit their answer? Once they've done that, typically they won't be able to adjust their answer on a revisit - unless there is a "retry quiz" button within the results slide that would reset all results.
You may want to look at the method here to submit all the questions at once, and then confirming that users are ready to submit their answers.
Hope that helps and please let us know if you need anything else.
How do you create a retry quiz button?
Would it be possible to keep the student's text response and allow them to edit so that they can try to submit again?
Hi Jane,
Are you using Storyline 360? If so, you'll follow the steps here to enable a Retry quiz button. That'll reset all the question slides so that the learner can reanswer them. There isn't a built-in method to keep the text entry answers visible to learners on a revisit, but it may be something folks in the community could help weigh in on!
Thanks Ashley
