Freeform vs Form-based questions

Dec 30, 2017

Hello again, Heroes! Tell me, when creating pre and post quizzes, is it better to use form-based questions over freeform questions, and why?

Hi Ira,

I suppose it depends on what you mean by 'better'.

Form-based questions are super easy and quick to create, and also easy and quick to edit. The downside is that they are restricted bu their form, so there aren't many options for customising.

Free-form questions take a bit more time/effort. How much more really depends on your goals as free-form questions allow the designer the freedom to turn virtually anything into a quiz question that can be captured by your LMS.

So, really, it depends! If by 'better' you mean in terms of capturing the quiz results, then there isn't really any difference, both question types can be fed into a results slide which can be read by the LMS.
