GIF files speeded up with zoom function

Jan 21, 2021

Hello!

I am having some trouble with publishing a project with multiple GIF files, which I have been trying to fix/find workarounds for.

Even so, I haven't been able to fix one in particular, nor have I any idea of why this is happening! I've inserted a character "talking" as a GIF file in a slide which I zoom in (with "Zoom Region") at some point. Whenever I publish (either as video, LMS, or Review 360), once the zooming starts, the GIF accelerates significantly.

Can you help me with this, please?

Thank you,

Helena

Hello, Helena,

I tried reproducing the issue with a random gif file but it seems to be working fine on my end. One thing that I noticed though is that applying the "Zoom Region" reduces the size of the gif object on the timeline, thus, possibly speeding up the animation. You might want to adjust the duration of the gif file on the timeline after applying the zoom region.

Would you mind sending a sample .story file of the problematic slide so that I can check it further for you and see if we can fix it?

I'll be happy to help you with it as soon as I can. Good luck! :)

Hello, Helena,

As you already confirmed the fix through email, I am adding the workaround here as a reference for other users.

As a workaround, we can edit the GIF and create a new state where the animation speed is slower, then use that on the cue point where the zoom region starts. For reference, I was using 20% of the original animation speed on the GIF file and adjusted it using this free tool: https://ezgif.com/speed/

I hope this helps other users who might be experiencing a similar problem.
