gray nav bar in mobile and tablet

Mar 28, 2020

My issue is illustrated and described here (and below):

http://www.nbsportfolio.com/storylinemockup.html

I do not want my course to play full screen when viewed on a computer. So, it seems I have to use the classic player. I also like to take off all features and colors of the player to make it invisible, all nav for my courses is within the course slides.

What I am really wanting though is to remove the gray bar that comes up on mobile/tablet when using the classic player. The gray bar doesn't show up when i use the modern player (and remove all nav features), but I can't use the modern player because I don't want the course to play full screen on computer screens.

Any guidance is appreciated.

Hi Nathan,

You may want to try to hide the classic player background color border by adjusting the transparency.

Please see the steps below.

In the player properties, click Colors & Effects on the ribbon.

Click the link to Show advanced color editing.
From the Edit item drop-down list, select the following items and make them 100% transparent.

Base >> Main Background
Base >> Main Border
Base >> Slide Background

Refer to the attached image for further details.

You can also customize some of the items background color by selecting each item in this view.

For additional reference, you may want to refer to the link below.  Take note that the reference document is for Modern Player.

I hope this all gets sorted out.

Got it. I see that gray bar does usually serves a purpose, in that it usually contains the next/prev buttons. But for those of us making slides with the nav built into the slides themselves, that gray bar just looks bad when the courses are viewed on mobile or tablet. I would prefer my slides fill the screen.

hi!  I"m having the exact same frustrating issue with the grey bar on the right in landscape and the grey bar on the bottom in Portrait mode. I also made all the same adjustments to the color settings to no avail. Has anyone figured out a solution to this in the past 4 months? I would love some help with subsequent module builds. I was on the last version of Storyline3 and also updated and tested again with the same results.

Hi Cecile,

Thank you for those helpful visuals! It looks like disabled player features are appearing in Storyline 3's responsive player on mobile. To help us dig in:

  • What devices and OSs are you using to view the published output?
  • Are you comfortable with sharing the .story file with us? We'll publish the course to test it in a similar environment, and delete it after. If that sounds like a plan, simply use this private upload link.

hi!  We're testing it on PCs, Macs and mobile devices, droid and apple. The bar only appears on mobile devices (on the bottom in vertical and on the right side in horizontal).

So I realized what was causing the grey bar to appear: It's because of second scene I had in the project: a PPT i imported in to pull elements from that was unformatted. So even though I specifically set Storyline to publish just the one scene, it takes into account that second scene and the grey bar appears for player features. Deleting the extraneous second scene made the grey bar go away.

BUT.... hopefully you can help me with this last residual issue. While the grey bar is gone, it does seem like there's a placeholder that's still there. Again only in mobile and most apparent when it's in the horizontal position. The module doesn't take up the full width of the screen. There's a black margin on the right side the same exact size as where the gray bar was. Would you have any idea how to get rid of that?

I've attached a shortened version of the module for your testing.

thank you so much for the attention and help!
