Hidden hotspot triggers

I'm working on a simulation where in 80% of cases a hotspot needs to be clicked in order to play some media and advance to the next slide.
However, for whatever reason the hotspot trigger doesn't show up in the triggers panel. If I want the trigger to show up, I have to create a new trigger that contains the hotspot. I can then edit the original trigger that was hidden, but when I delete the one I just created the trigger disappears again. It works, but it's really annoying not being able to see it. Can I stop this from happening? I essentially want the trigger to show up at all times.

Try creating a shape with no outline and 100% transparency, rather than a hotspot.
It won't catch the click if you set it to no fill; it must have a fill and 100% transparency if you want it hidden to the user.
