HIghlighting

Aug 28, 2014

Hello,

Is there a way to highlight an object at certain points during the slide - to make an outline appear and disappear as a separate object on the timeline?

Or, alternately, is there a way to "gray out" items around your desired object?

Hi Alexandra,

There isn't a highlight option - but you could set a transparent shape to appear over a particular object at a point on your timeline. The timeline allows you to set the start and enter time, and if you're working with some audio as well, you can use the cue points to help you keep those elements in line.

This tutorial on using the timeline will help you set up both of those things.

For custom shapes, there are two directions you can go:

1) Create a freeform shape in Storyline and play around with Storyline's shape effects (I've had good results with a yellow fill and some combination of soft edges and glow).

2) Create your highlights in an image editing program, such as Photoshop or GIMP. It's a little extra work to deal with importing and scaling, but these programs have more powerful tools for creating the exact shape you want.
