Hopping between slides and saving progress in Storyline

Feb 03, 2021

I'm currently building a course in Storyline and have hit a snag with returning to a saved position in a course.

The course has several chapters, each of which consists of a short video, followed by up to 10 multiple response questions relating to that video. The questions must be answered in consecutive order. I'd like to have the option for learners to rewatch the video at any time while doing questions, and be able to return to their position.

For example, the learner watches the video, answers questions 1-3, but gets stuck on question 4 and needs to rewatch the video. It's easy enough to link back to the video slide, but, once he's rewatched the video, how do I get him to return directly to question 4, without clicking through questions 1-3?

The only way I've been able to work around this is by putting the video on a Slide Master which I then use for all the relevant questions.

If there is a better way of doing this, any advice would be appreciated!

Hi, Marko,

Try lightboxing the video slide. That would let the user review the video, and when they closed the lightbox, they'd still be on the question.

FYI: This does require having the video controls available on the slide (instead of using the Player's seekbar). But you could use the seekbar during the initial presentation and the video controls in the lightbox.

  • Set the video to show the controls.
  • Create a shape that covers the video controls.
  • Add a trigger that hides that cover shape if the slide is in a lightbox:

  • In case of revisiting as a normal slide (i.e., not lightboxed), add a trigger that show that cover shape if the slide is in the player.
