Hotspot workaround after selecting

I need to use the Hotspot question slide as it is graded. Most of the "select the correct area" questions we have involved system screen images that are black with white text. The spinning wheel after selecting a hotspot is nearly invisible over the system images.

I'm interested if anyone has any workarounds or outside of the box ways of using Hotspot quiz slides.

I attached a test slide having a trigger for the hotspot to change the state of a shape underneath it. However, I am not able to correctly replicate the hovering of an actual shape when done by the system. Also this way is not efficient and not the preferred way.
