Hover and ordering

Jun 04, 2013

Hi guys

Does anyone know how I can get a 'hover' item to sit IN FRONT of slide content and objects?  I have a series of buttons in my slide master that I want the learner to be able to hover over to read what they do, but once I put other objects and content in the slide they keep getting hidden - even when I set them as 'bring to front'.  Any tips or tricks would be appreciated!!

So, can I please follow up with another question? I assume this means to add the button to the layer on the master. In order to get this to work, I had to add a trigger so show the layer when the timeline starts. Is this because I did it wrong or is this how it works? It DOES work when I preview.

And if this IS how it works, that means you can't see it when you're working in slide view?

TIA!

Hiya

I think so!  I added the button in the slide master, and then the layer also in the slide master, then added a trigger item to the button to show the layer I wanted when mouse hovered over...then when you close master view, you can't see it in your ordinary slides until you preview that slide.  Ithen when you hover over that button the trigger works and it shows the layer I want.  Not sure about your timeline aspect, are you referring to an action you want?

Okay Phil I"m putting this one out to you, and I think it may expand on your problem Rebecca - if I add a button in the slide master, that links to a layer, how can I edit this layer once I have applied the master to my story project?  The concept I'm looking at is having a button that gives a layer with a summary of text, but rather than having to add this to EVERY slide, I want it in the master - this works just fine until I try and find that layer in the working version - I can't find it to add in the text.  Any thoughts?

Ah. I think I misunderstood your question. I thought you wanted the button to show information when hovered over (e.g., when you hover over the button there's text that says "click me to see blah blah blah") and that when you placed for example a background rectangle over it on a slide, the button wasn't showing (which it doesn't). But from your answer, and looking back at your question, I see that it was the item itself that wasn't showing.

Tx for responding. And I did learn how to do the button blah blah thing should I ever need it!
