How a visual audio slider to sync with audio on page
Nov 30, 2020
Hi All,
I have audio of someone talking and I want to have and option on the page for someone to pause the audio, play it or see a slider type thing moving along as the audio progresses.
I can't find any tutorials on how to get the slider type thing (sorry I can't think of a better name for it) on the page and how to sync it. I was hoping this was a built in thing in storyline but can't find it.
How do others do this? Do I basically need to create a slider for this that I have move at specific times in sync with the audio or is there something built in that I have missed.
I have attached an image of what I am looking to achieve.
Thanks in advance

Hi Carlton,
I think what you are referring to is the Seekbar that sits at the bottom of the screen:
To show this and your audio controls, you need to edit the Player options and select Seekbar and Play/Pause from the Controls menu:
Hi Ned,
Thanks for replying. I did look at the seek bar but I thought there were a couple of issues with it.
If the following are true then it would work but I don't know if they are. Are they?
Side Note: If the above isn't possible, I know I can likely do exactly what I want with a slider and triggers but that's a lot of work, it would be a lot easier if there was a built in feature.
Hi All,
Just checking to see if there are any more opinions on this. I have managed to create something using a slider and triggers, but it took a while to create as I want a moving bar that increases as time goes by to reflect the time elapse in the audio.
At the moment it's very jerky so I need to add some more points into the slider so it will be less jerky which means I need to create more images and then more triggers. Very time consuming. Is there a better way?
With Javascript you can create any audio player you want. For example amplitude.js ( https://521dimensions.com/open-source/amplitudejs ) is one of those.
Or convert it to an MP4 and use the video controls
Thanks Math,
I'm going to have a good look at that. Now my mind is open to using Javascript for this, I guess it gives me a lot more options.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. It sounds like storyline don't have a good built in option for this so for speed Javascript might be the best option.
Cheers
Hi Phil,
Sorry, just seen this after I replied to Math. Hmm, I never thought about that and it sounds straight forward enough. I'll look at both yours and Math's options and see which works for me best and let you know.
Cheers
Hi Math and Phil,
I looked at the javscript and storyline player options and neither of them seemed quite right for my needs.
I'm going to be creating it as a slider because I think I can get it to look exactly as I would like. It's a reasonable amount of work but I'll hopefully be able to use it in other projects in the future.
Thanks again. I'm still open to other suggestions but it seems like certain things in storyline are just time consuming to get exactly as you would like them for now. In the future maybe they will have a suitable audio player with buttons that can be displayed for learners.
