How best to link a button?

Jul 23, 2013

This is my first post so please be gentle with me!!

I am new to storyline [ I know where have I been all this time] and working my way through some of the tutorials but wondered if someone out there can help me?

I have created a slide that has 3 buttons, one labelled "Getting Started", the second "Formulaes and Functions" and the third "Consolidation"  I want each button to then go off and take students through a series of short software tutorials.

Rather than click on the next button down in bottom right hand corner I want the user to be able to click on any of the buttons that will then take them directly to that section and when finished return them back to the starting point.  Does this make sense and if so, is this possible and how?  Do I need to create separate files/interactions for these buttons that link to the main file?

 Regards

Hi John and welcome to Heroes!

There are likely a few ways that you could achieve what you're looking for, but one solution would be to add a trigger at the end of the short tutorials that would take the user back to the slide with the three buttons. Here is a tutorial on how to add and edit triggers in case you haven't seen it already. You can add the trigger to the "next" or "previous" buttons, set it to the timeline or another object on the slide - it's all up to how you'd want it to look.

Hope that helps, and if you need anything else please let us know!

Hi both and thanks for your quick response.

Ashley, many thanks for the link to the tutorial and I think I may just need to play the tutorial to understand what its trying to do and how it could link to my project.

Antony, Thank you also for you response but could not find your rough demo.  Is there a link to your file?

Once again, really appreciate the advice

John
