How Can I Animate Icons on Storyline Menu Buttons?

Feb 21, 2022

I read the article about animating buttons, Creating Animated Button Styles and Effects in E-Learning #285.

Trying to "push the envelope,"  I added icons to my menu buttons.

These are the animations I wanted to work in the Hover state and remain static in the Normal state:

 - enlarge magnifying glass

-  turn wrench with gear

-  turn curved arrow

Actual animation was a bit difficult.  I basically used a crude animation by state technique where I simply changed the orientation of the icons on the Hover state.

The "animation" worked on the Hover state, but I could still see the original image from the Normal state.

To make up for my dilemma, I used actual animation on the Normal state but preferred it to occur on Hover. (Please see attached SL file.)

Is there a way to fix this?

Thanks

Hello Scott!

Since there isn't a way to add animations to the Hover state, I'd recommend adding a motion path that will occur when the object is in the Hover state.

In this case, I'd add a Circle Motion Path and then edit the trigger to read "Move Motion Path When the Mouse Hovers Over (Object)"

I've attached a sample project to this discussion. Let me know if this would work for you!
