Hi i'm developing an fairly long eLT that needs to have a save button which keeps the progress and position of the user, is there a way to do this / create a trigger perhaps?
First off, welcome to the community, Alam! Thanks for your question. :)
Storyline has a built-in Resume feature that controls how learners will experience your course if it's viewed more than once. You can customize resume behavior so that learners:
Start the course fresh every time
Start where they left off the last time they visited the course
Choose (via a prompt) whether to start over or resume where they left off
If you're looking for a button that will allow you to save the state of the current slide when the learner leaves the course and then returns to it through the LMS, check out the method suggested here.
Hopefully this points you towards what you're looking to do, and give us a shot if you need any more help!
Hope you can help again as I'm having trouble actually applying that last method to my eLT slides (maybe i'm doing it wrong lol).
I have attached a image of one of the scenes:
So circled in red is the save page which every slide in the scene links back to (letting the user know the progress is saved) and also from that page they can resume or exit the course etc
Q - how do I ensure the users progress is actually saved - do I need to alter the properties on every slide or is it something else I need to do?
The Resume button on slide 2.16 should contain a trigger that jumps the learner to the previous slide, since that’s where the learner clicked the Save button before exiting the course.
When the learner exits the course, then comes back and clicks the Resume button, they will return to the slide where they halted their progress, with states and slide layers preserved. As long as you have not selected the "Reset to initial state' option on the Slide Properties, the slide should resume just as the learner left it.
Have you had a chance to test the published version yet? You can publish for Web and upload it to Tempshare for a quick test. If it's not working how you'd like it to, could you share your file with me so I can see what you've got set up so far?
Thanks for getting back to me again! So Just to make sure I've understood :
With my 'save slide' 2.16 - Do I need to create multiple copies of it to enable the resume feature we're talking about (So for example if I have 20 slides in that scene - do I need to create 20 of my 'save slides' which exist parallel?
Al
p.s. I haven't had a chance to publish yet but Tempshare is going to be a veeery handy tool in the coming days I think, thanks!

Hi Alyssa,
Wow thank you :] That last part is precisely the info that I was looking for!!
Will have a play and get back to you if there's anything else but thanks again!
All the best, Al
So glad you found that helpful, Al! And like you said, be sure to reach out if you run into anything else along the way. :)

Hi Al,
You should only need one "Save Slide" 2.16, plus a save button on every slide with a trigger to jump to slide 2.16 when the user clicks.
Good luck, and let me know what happens after you test it!
Thanks Alyssa :) Ill have a play around and update.
Have a great day!
Sounds good! You too, Al!
