How do I change the template of an existing lesson to a new template?

Jun 18, 2015

I have an issue...

We have all been here, at least once in our careers, and it's called "Re-Branding". How can I swap out the old template with the new containing all the new logo's and other data?

Is it possible?

Hi Dan,

I haven't seen discussions of that, but I could see how that would make sense. I do wonder if it could end up creating more work - as you'd have to readjust all slide elements? The templates have been something that we always recommend starting the project with.

Have you tested inserted new slides from a template in your existing project and then copying over the individual things you'd want to keep?

Hi,

pretty common problem indeed. As far as I could try, there's no way to replace the current template with a new one without going through a painful lot of manual work, and that's too bad.

It's not about using the target template since the beginning of a project, it's about updating an existing project to a newer template, importing someone else's project that has a different template, creating a single project with multiple templates to see which on is the best looking...

For sure whatever solution will be implemented, it will require some manual re-editing of the slides content (nudging, stretching, resizing..) but today it is practically impossible; you'd better start fresh and create a brand new project with your new template.

Any chance we get something more useful implemented?

I am more and more, having to rebrand courses in Storyline 360. It would be really helpful if there was a way to apply a new template to an existing course. If the new template is applying a new color palette, logo and font only, I don't see that there would be that much manual adjusting. Has anything transpired in the last year?

Hello Cindy!

Thank you for checking in on this feature request! The workflow that we recommend is to save a template as a .storytemplate and then build the course from there. When adding a new template to an existing course, you might need to format the content to fit. It sounds like this is what you're noticing!

Please let me know if you have any questions, I'd love to help!

We are prioritizing other feature requests for our upcoming updates, so we haven't released a fix yet. I'd love to gather more information to share exactly what you're looking for with my team. It sounds like you'd like the option to apply a new template to an existing course rather than going slide by slide to apply a new layout.

Is that correct? If so, I'll share this with my team. You can also share requests with us here: Feature Request.
