How do I make sure the user can RESUME the quiz EVERYTIME?

Sep 25, 2013

In Articulate Storyline - I get a 'RESUME' option in the following circumstances:

When you've opened the quiz previously and not answered ANY questions

When you've opened the quiz previously and answered ALL the questions

When you answer just a few questions. When you go back in, the quiz starts from beginning.

How do I make sure that the user gets the 'Resume' option in EVERY circumstance?

Thank you!!

You may want to change from "Automatically decide" to "Resume saved state" on the slides. Automatically decide allows Storyline to decide, and sometimes you'll want to ensure that the behavior is acting exactly as you'd like. The Flash cookies part is about how your LMS is going to handle the resume behavior as described in this article (and copied below):

If you choose Always or Prompt, and if you'll be hosting your content in an LMS, do one of the following:

  • If your LMS supports bookmarking, mark the box labeled When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie. The LMS will control resume behavior in this scenario.
  • If your LMS does not support bookmarking, uncheck When running in LMS, ignore Flash cookie. The Flash cookie will control resume behavior in this scenario.

I'm happy to take a look at your settings as well if you'd like to share it here in the forums. If you prefer to not post it publicly you can also share it with me here.

Hi Ashley,

Thanks for that. I will set them all to 'Resume saved state'. Is there to do this globally for every quiz? Or presumably I have to go into each quiz and select this option. (I'm working on lots of quizzes that we imported from Quizmaker so any way to make the process quicker would be great!).

I checked with the technical team, and they said we're not using LMS so should I check or uncheck the box?

Thank you!

Hi Helen,

If you'd like to update the slide properties for multiple slides at once you can do some from within Story View, you'll be able to click on multiple slides, and then fix the slide properties for more than one slide in the bottom right corner of the slide properties.

If you're not using an LMS, where will you be hosting/deploying your quiz for users to access it and track results?

Perfect, thank you!

I have another issue which I have posted in another thread but haven't heard anything yet. Just wondering if you knew the answer on how to get rid of the green lines that appear around possible answers for questions where the user enters text? see thh attached image.

Hi Helen,

The only way to get rid of them completely would be to disable the showing of correct/incorrect feedback on quiz review (from the Result Slide Properties, you can uncheck the box for "Show correct/incorrect feedback responses when reviewing"). You could still customize your own feedback, as described in the tutorial before.
