How do I save my slide layout as a slide master?
Feb 17, 2018
I have created a layout I want to re-use in my project. I guess I should have done that in the Slide Master view (?), but I didn't know that and just modified a blank slide. Now I want to make that a custom layout (versus a Storyline template, I think--I just want to save a single slide layout) but I can't figure out how to save the current layout. I also thought of trying to copy the whole layout and paste it into a new Slide Master, but I can't figure out how to do that either.
I am new to Storyline 3, and I've been reading a lot of these discussions, and I'm still not certain that I'm using the words "layout" and "template" correctly, so I apologize if I'm not asking this question correctly.

Hi Allison, you are right to be a little confused about the term template and slide layouts. You don't really create a template in Storyline - what you do is create a series of slide layouts that can be reused in different projects.
There are a couple of ways to do this.
Method 1:
Open the Storyline file with the layout you created and do a file save as and select Storyline template from the Save as type dropdown list.
To use the layout in a project you click the Slides tab in Storyline and select My templates. When you do this, you will see all your custom slide layouts and you can select and import the ones you want to use in the project. (note, I am using 360 but I think this is also the way it works in Storyline 3)
Method 2:
When in the new project, click File >Import >Storyline. Locate the file with the layout you created and select import. This will display all the slides in the project. You can then select and import the ones you want to use.
Hope this helps
Is there a way to save one individual slide from a project as a template, or do I have to save the entire project as a template in order to reuse one slide?
Hi Alicia,
Thanks for reaching out with what you'd like to do.
I'd recommend importing the slide into a new project to save the template.
I also wanted to share the tutorial for templates for anyone that may be following along:
