How does LMS reporting work with multiple quiz tries?

I have a course with quizzes spread across several modules. These are linked to a results slide. If the learner gets a failing score they can go back and retake the quizzes. This is not done by checking Allow User to Retake Quiz in the Results Slide Options. Rather the quizzes are set up to Reset to Initial State when revisiting.

My questions are:

When do results get communicated to the LMS? When the Results slide is reached or when exiting the course?
If learners go back and retake quizzes and then revisit the Results slide - do the latest results get communicated to the LMS? In other words can results be communicated/updated multiple times in the same session just by retaking quizzes and only the last result becomes the final score?

Hi Ray!

Here's how to publish a project for LMS and various settings.

Here is what Storyline sends to LMS.

If you want to track the activity being sent, you can enable LMS Debug mode.

Now, how your LMS (that you did not name) handles this information I cannot determine.

However, the standard that we use (and a great testing tool) is to check your content in SCORM Cloud. This helps us determine if the issue is Articulate related or if it's on your LMS's side? If an issue appears in SCORM Cloud as well, we'd be happy to take a closer look at what might be going on. If you can't replicate the issue in SCORM Cloud, it's probably an issue that you'd want to take to your LMS team.

I have the same questions. Not sure if they were answered in this post. If a user fails a quiz, retakes it and passes it, is the second score reported to the LMS? I created a quiz, failed it, then passed it and did not get course completion. So I'm thinking only the first score is retained, regardless of a subsequent passing score. Does that seem correct?

Hello Cappie!

Great question! Data is communicated to an LMS when a learner exits a course. For example, let's say that I took a quiz and scored a 100% on the first attempt and selected "Retry Quiz" on the Results Slide. I scored a 50% on the second attempt and closed out the course. My score communicated to the LMS is 50%. If I need to retake the course, then I, or an admin, would need to reset the progress in the LMS to have a fresh attempt.
