You just need to add states to your shape. You can then change the properties of the shape for each state. To do what you are asking, I've created a White star shape and added a down and visited state with the Star set to red. If you want to set the state with a trigger, then you should use a custom state so the states aren't changed on you by the defualt coding on the default states. I've added a star with a Completed State that shows how you can do that.
To look at the states of an object, click the States tab next to the Timeline tab.
It really depends on what Manoj really wants to do. But I usually find the best method is to set a variable when the slide in question is visited, then when you return to the slide with all of the stars, you set them to the custom state using triggers, based on the state of the variables.

Dave, how would you then go about the second part of the question, showing the user all their starred slides in one place?
