I also went through the internet about blink the next button when timeline ends. But I'm not satisfied with the results. Because i don't want any customize button and make it blink. I want it to work on the default player button of Articulate Storyline. First of all, I want to say that the Articulate Storyline features is beyond our imagination. All you have to just.. Explore!

At last I finally get the way to blink the default player button when timeline ends by using some triggers. Recently, I use this in my project and it's really amazing.

Hi, I am just now to storyline 360. and I am trying to find out about the flashing next button. I have seen the "flashingnextbutton.story from Russell (3years ago) and I have tried to do exactly the same. what i mean is that I have set-up below:

  • layer with another colered button
  • on the layer arrange a trigger with hide the layer, when timelines end
  • on the layer arrange a trigger with show the layer, when timelines end
  • on the base have a trigger show the layer, when timelines end
  • inserted animation fade 0.75s and fade out 0.75s on the layer button.

when playing the slide, It show the layer when base timeline ends, but it only flashes one time then it stops.

Hope anyone can guide me in the right direction.

Three things:

1. You don't have to write a trigger to hide a layer when its timeline ends. In layer properties, there is an option to do that.

2. The timeline on the base only ends once, so it can be used to start the sequence, but not to continue it. You may need two layers.

3. I'd have to see the project to know for sure, but you might have it set up right, except that layers default to Automatically decide the state when revisited, and they may be deciding to use the saved state. if so, it might work if you set them to Use initial state on revisit.

With all that said, here's a sample that seems to do what you are asking.

I think I understand what you are telling me.

ad1: when I delete the hide trigger and use the slide option instead, it does not work "the blinking layer"

Ad2: I have not tryed with 2 layers. But that will be the next.

Ad3: please find a simple slide of my project. I think, that what i want is very simple.

When you come to a slide you need to go through the literature before you can select the next button, and when you have visited all interactions then the next button should start flashing.

I have cracked the flash button, but not the "if visited".

If I delete the "if Visited or selected" then the flash button work at en of time line, but I need to have the student to visit the interaction before that happens.

Thanks for your answer, I hope you can help me in my problem. I will attach my slides, perhaps you can find out why it does not flash when all interaction has been visited.

Part of the problem is this trigger:

A layer can't show itself, which is why you must use two layers.

The rest of the problem is here:

The timeline on the base ends after 1 second, at which time the trigger fires. Since not all of those states can possibly be visited, the blink layer is not shown. The timeline ends only one time, so unless you visit all layers within one second, the blink never happens.

The solution is to copy this trigger to each layer. The biggest problem is that you can never know for sure how long it will take the learner to read each layer. If it takes too long for the Continue to become active and blink, they will be unhappy. If it happens too soon, you run the risk of someone leaving without reading all of the last layer. So you have to make a decision, and set the layer timelines about that long. Personally, five to ten seconds seems good.

Hi Walt

So many thanks for your reply, very much appreciated. It works perfectly.

Unfortunately I can not use the trick when there is no layers, like when I have used interactive markers.

I could set the timeline to a very long time, but the point really is to make the trigger fire when last object has been visited.

is there another method I could use.

Slide 2 seems to work that way now. The secret is that for each marker, take its own state out of the conditions. There is a timing problem. It seems the system advances through the conditions before the state change is completed. But if you click on one marker, and the other three have been visited, you will have visited all of them when the button starts pulsing.
