How to host a module as a demo
Feb 04, 2013
Hi everyone,
I'm sorry for my nievity but I am rather nieve at this at the moment...with your help this could all change!!!
I have a number of courses that OI am developing for a client (I'm a SME and not a ID). I have developed most of the modules and am now being asked to have the general public see 1 module per course as part of the demo strategy.
Can someone please advise me on what the best solution for anyone to see the module by clicking on a link.?
Any help would be appreciated.
~Stephen

Hey Stephen!
Still a little unclear as to what exactly you're hoping to do...
Do you have a website or LMS in place? Are you looking to share only portions of a bigger course? Do you want to showoff your project, but limit the interactivity?
You can publish portions of your project by importing the selected slides into a new .story file, and then publish that excerpt. After publishing, you'll just need to share the story.html link.
Let us know exactly what you'd like to do and I'm sure we can make it happen
Thanks Peter,
I understand the story.html link now. I tried to upload the output file into my webserver but it didn't work. I tried to put it in DropBox but that didn't work. The LMS is a little confusing so I am not sure how to capture the story.html file from the modules that I have uploaded to it.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks'

Cool, we'll make it work. If you want to ensure that your course is coming together the way you want, you can give it a go in Tempshare. That content wil be deleted in 10 days, I believe, but it's a great way to see your project online.
As far as giving your project a permanent home, David put together a nice tutorial here:
If you're still running into issues, I'd be happy to take a look at your file and help get it up and running.
Thanks Peter,
I am just loading it on my server. I am having problems getting some files to upload but I am sure that is more of my hosting company's server rather than the concept. I'll use your idea if this doesn't work out.
Thanks again!

Okay, sounds good! And if you bump into trouble with your server displaying your project, make sure it's configured to support the proper MIME types.
Let us know how it goes
Will do. Thanks again for all your help.
It worked out! I now have the demos for the client and they are very happy! Thanks
Right on, Stephen! Glad to hear it
