How to number questions from a question bank?

Apr 16, 2015

Hi All,

I have a standard series of questions I have compiled into a question bank for an assessment.  The test draws 10 random questions from a question bank of 25 questions.

What I would like to do is be able to show the user the question number (1/10, 2/10, etc).

Thanks

Thomas

After looking at the .story file I see now that you are all taking about the Prev button that shows during Quiz Review, not one that has been added to the quiz slide that shows while the user is taking the quiz. The latter case is where I ran into scoring issues. (I had added a Prev button so people could back up and see why they missed the previous question because the feedback covered up an image).

Hi there. I was hoping I could get some additional instructions. We pull 20 random questions from a question bank where some are anchored and the rest are random. The instructions above seem to be more geared towards next and previous buttons, but all of our questions have "submit" after they answer they answer the questions. How would I go about numbering each question as they are pulled in whether they're random or anchored questions? Really struggling with this and would greatly appreciate your help. I have attached our native file.

Hi there, Justin! Happy to give you some resources to get you moving forward. ☺️

It looks like you have modified your "Question" slide master layout a bit, and that you have a QuestionCounter variable. So far, you're off to a good start!

If you want to use Parashuram's method for question slide counters, now you'll need to add some triggers to your slide master layout.  You won't see the triggers on the individual slide, but they'll be there for every slide that uses that layout.  Instead of applying the trigger to the Next button, start with applying it to the Submit button.  Also, since you want the first question to show "1" and you haven't clicked Submit, I'd change the default (starting) value of that variable to 1.

You'll need a way to show the question counter, so include a text box on your slide master layout that references your QuestionCounter variable.  It'll look something like:  Question %QuestionCounter% of 20.

Let us know how you make out with those steps, and if you can, share an updated .story file!

Thank you so much for your reply. I was able to locate the master slide for the quiz, but my view differs from your screen shot, so I’m not sure how to setup the master slide so the other slides can be numbered.

For a fee, would you mind setting up the master slide with a text box with %QuestionCounter% so I can use as a template? I can PayPal you or pay in some other way. I have Articulate 360 so I’m not sure if that’s why the screen shots differ from my view.
