How to score a likert scale?

Apr 17, 2018

I've been wading through various discussions on this and I'm sure my answer exists somewhere...but I can't seem to find the solution.

I have 2 slides with a total of ten questions. There are 5 radio button likert scale options for each of the ten questions. I need a total score to be calculated on my results slide.

Sounds simple enough, but I'm stumped. Can someone help me?

I want the learner to be able to select only one option for each question...

Hi Christy,

Looks like you may have built this manually and not using one of the built in slide types?

If you are wanting to assign points, you may need to set up your 'survey' as a graded quiz and assign the points values per answer instead of per question. Check out this tutorial for assistance.

The survey questions are non-graded.

Hi Christy,

By design in Storyline a Likert scale is not scored, as it's a survey style question.

It does look like you set up this custom Likert scale, so if you want a user to only select one choice out of the 0-4 scale, you'll want to group all those buttons as a Button set.

As for scoring it, do you want to add up their responses on each slide? That sounds like a custom scoring method to add to a variable - so I'll leave that to some of our community experts! The personality style quiz may be a good place to start.

I believe my buttons are all in button sets (so, there are 10 sets). I just want the total score to show on a results slide. I thought there might be an easy solution... The problem with the personality style quiz and other solutions I found is that there is one question per slide. I was hoping to avoid the user going through 10 separate slides as I am trying to mimic the paper form.

Hi Marie, I ended up not having it scored, but I'm thinking it would have been easy to achieve using variables. Check out this thread for adding variables. The adding.story file might be a useful example. I hope this works for you. Good luck!
