How to test url and linking

Jun 24, 2014

I have inserted several types of links in my course: URLs to intranet site, URLs to exteranal sites. And, I have tried using the Web Object functionality and the Hyperlink text functionality. Even when the link opens in the project, I cannot get the links to work when I publish. How can I test these links?

Also, sometimes the links open the file manager as if looking for a file, not a url. Why would that happen? Is there documentation that explains how to fully qualitfy the link? BTW, Search does not work for me on your Forum site. This make it difficult to search for specific information.

Thanks!

Hi Monique,

First off, I'm sorry to hear that the search functionality is giving you difficulty. It's something we've heard from a number of users, and although it's intermittent, our web team is aware of it and working on updates for a future version of the ELH site. In the meantime, you'll want to use the method described by Adrian here to search with Google.

Now on to your other questions - when testing your published output, are you testing it locally? If so, you may be encountering security restrictions and such that would block access to the URLs and the web objects. You'll want to test the published content within the intended environment such as the web server or LMS, or you could publish for CD or another local source to test it locally.
