HTML5 Fallback Option/Logic for Storyline 1?

Oct 03, 2014

Hello!

Currently, we have a large number of resources we are using that were built directly in Adobe Flash. We are aware that these are not compatible with the HTML5 or mobile versions of Articulate, however, they will take a long time to rebuild (something we are in the process of doing).

In the meantime, I was wondering if we can offer a "Fall back" option within Storyline that swaps out the content for something else if the user is transitioned to the HTML5 version, OR if their device does not support Flash at all.

As a stop-gap, we would like to a video file or even a simple document to appear for those users.

Are there any tricks to do this?

Thanks!

Adam

Well, this may not be the best option but for iPad users, you could have them use the Puffin browser instead of Mobile Safari.  Puffin has a free version (with ads) and paid version (no ads) and both seem to work well in translating Flash into something that can be seen on iPads.

Since the browser uses an external server to render Flash into something viewable on iPads, and if you're behind a firewall, you need to be sure this is allowed.

Puffin also has an Android version but I've never tested that.

Having learners install and use a different browser may not be optimal but at least it's an option.
