Impact of layers on the file size

Feb 10, 2020

Hello everyone,

I've been digging around but cannot find an answer to this question. I have some system simulations built-in storyline. These have various objects that are placed over the top related to navigation and branding. I have placed these objects on additional layers, this coupled with the feedback layers means I have typically 5-7 layers per slide.

Is this too many? I have to have the objects and I use the layers to keep them organised but would the final output be smaller (and load quicker) if I had everything on the one layer? My end-users will have variable connection speeds so keeping things as small as possible is important.

Hi Steve,

I don't know if too many layers are the issue as it may be more the contents of the course that can lag performance in slower internet speed environments.

If you do worry that your course size may be too big, consider breaking it down into smaller modules, or even test your course live in one of those environments to see if issues occur!
