Impact of Player Resume Behaviours on Variables

Feb 24, 2014

Can I just confirm that if a module has a T/F variable used to allow access to a quiz only after certain screens have been visited, this variable would be reset to its starting condition when the learner revisits the module, if the Player Resume Behaviour is set to "Never", but not if it is set to "Always", and dependant on the choice made if set to "Prompt"?

Thanks

Hi Nick,

You are correct - the resume behavior will keep/ignore the variables based on what you choose, and if you choose "Always" or "Prompt" you may also want to look at the individual slides revisiting properties as well. For example if you'd like the users to be able to revisit the slides (using your menu or the next/prev buttons) and still keep the variable you'll want the individual slides set to "resume saved state."

Ashley,

Many thanks. On a simliar but slightly different note, am I also right in saying that the "Retry" option on a quiz doesn't function properly if the questions are set to "Reset to Initial" as when reviewing the quiz the questions are reset to unanswered state and so the learner is told that they were "incorrect" regardless of what they originally selected?

It seems as if in a quiz there is a choice to be made between using "Resume Saved State" and allowing the learner to simply review the quiz and see which they got wrong or using "Reset To Initial" which allows them to do the quiz again from afresh, unless of course the Player Resume Behaviour is set to "Never" or "Prompt" and they choose "No" . However this would require them to exit the module and relaunch it.  Have I understood this correctly?

Thanks

Hi Nick,

If you need the user to "review" the quiz, you'll need to have the slides set to "resume saved state" but if you're also using the "Retry quiz" there should be a trigger that would reset the results and allow you to take the course again. If your course is behaving differently, are you able to share it here with us?
