There isn't a way to convert or import the published .zip output into an editable .story file. You'll need the original .story file to open the course and make edits.
If something happened to this file, there might be a working version of the project in the temp files. Here's how to check:
Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline
Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of the project. If found, copy it to the desktop. If there's more than one, copy the latest version to the desktop.
Change the file extension of the copy on the desktop from *.tmp to *.story.
Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.
Hope that helps, and let us know if you have any more questions!
