Importing Questions into Question Bank

Jan 15, 2015

Hi All,

I hope 2015 is rocking for all of you!

My co-worker asked me a very interesting question (that lead to more questions) about the question bank and I was like "Whhhhaaaat?"

  1. In what format do you import the questions?
  2. What columns need to be present if it is created in excel?
  3. How do you set the layout for all the slides so it doesn't keep on reverting to a weird  main title slide that's in the master?
  4. How do you import question bank from another course?

Thanks for the guidance on this.

Hi K,

1. If you're importing from Excel into Storyline 2 you'll want to use the format outlined here.  (there is a sample excel chart to get you started)

2. See the same excel chart mentioned above

3. Questions should be using the question layout as a part of the master slide, but if they're referencing something else you can adjust which layout is used by right clicking on them either in the left side panel or the slide itself and choosing which layout to apply.

4. If the question bank is a part of another .story file, you'll follow the steps outlined here to import your project, and you'll see the question bank and the slide draw slide listed as separate elements - you'll want to import both.

Hope you're 2015 is off to a great start as well!

I have a problem and have not been able to solve it. I have a huge project that has a large number of quiz questions (1000+). I am trying to import these questions from the excel file in which I have them.

The problem is I have tried to download the template I found via google (https://articulate-heroes.s3.amazonaws.com/import_templateeoz3qu.xls), but it always go to a .html file and IE opens it as gibberish. I tried to import fro a text file too (see attachment) and get an error message. NOTHING IS WORKING.

Can I import these question and How?
Where can I download this excel template?
Do I need to buy quizmaker to make this work?

Hi Willie!

I'm not getting the same error. Here's what I'm getting:

Looks like you did try to specify the correct answer, but there is a space prior to the * to indicate the correct answer, so it's not registering.

However, since you do not seem to be getting this far, I wanted to mention a couple of other things to check.

Please be sure that you are utilizing the latest update of Storyline 2, which is Update 7, and if so, you may consider a repair.
