Importing Questions into Question Bank

Kai ...
Hi All,
I hope 2015 is rocking for all of you!
My co-worker asked me a very interesting question (that lead to more questions) about the question bank and I was like "Whhhhaaaat?"
- In what format do you import the questions?
- What columns need to be present if it is created in excel?
- How do you set the layout for all the slides so it doesn't keep on reverting to a weird main title slide that's in the master?
- How do you import question bank from another course?
Thanks for the guidance on this.

Hi K,
1. If you're importing from Excel into Storyline 2 you'll want to use the format outlined here. (there is a sample excel chart to get you started)
2. See the same excel chart mentioned above
3. Questions should be using the question layout as a part of the master slide, but if they're referencing something else you can adjust which layout is used by right clicking on them either in the left side panel or the slide itself and choosing which layout to apply.
4. If the question bank is a part of another .story file, you'll follow the steps outlined here to import your project, and you'll see the question bank and the slide draw slide listed as separate elements - you'll want to import both.
Hope you're 2015 is off to a great start as well!
Great! This will work. Thanks a bunch :)
Great - happy to hear it Kai!
I have a problem and have not been able to solve it. I have a huge project that has a large number of quiz questions (1000+). I am trying to import these questions from the excel file in which I have them.
The problem is I have tried to download the template I found via google (https://articulate-heroes.s3.amazonaws.com/import_templateeoz3qu.xls), but it always go to a .html file and IE opens it as gibberish. I tried to import fro a text file too (see attachment) and get an error message. NOTHING IS WORKING.
Can I import these question and How?
Where can I download this excel template?
Do I need to buy quizmaker to make this work?
Hi Willie!
We have a specific template and instructions for Storyline 2 as you can see here. Looks like you may have the right file, but are you importing as the instructions demonstrate?
You should not need Quizmaker to make this work. If you need us to take a look, feel free to share your Excel document.
Thanks for the prompt reply.
It still not working. This was the original article I used to try to help solve the problem.
Whenever I try to import the questions I get the following error message.
and if i use a text file I get this:
I am enclosing them both maybe it will help shed light on the problem.

Hi Willie!
I'm not seeing any attachments here. If you are replying via e-mail, that is probably why. You are welcome to pop in the forums and share or if you need to share privately, you may do so here.
I hopes this works

Hi Willie!
The format did not match what was shared in the documentation.
Attaching an updated .xls file and .story file for you to look at.
Sorry attached the wrong file. Thanks for the attachment it exactly want I need.
Again, It didn't work. I re-did the files exactly like your attachments and I still got the error message "call was rejected by callee".
Could this be a speed problem?
Hi Willie -
Multiple Choice Questions have a limit of 10 choices. Looks like you have 13. This is the error I see when importing your file.
Even after changing the file. I still see the error message "call was rejected by callee".
Hi Willie!
I'm not getting the same error. Here's what I'm getting:
Looks like you did try to specify the correct answer, but there is a space prior to the * to indicate the correct answer, so it's not registering.
However, since you do not seem to be getting this far, I wanted to mention a couple of other things to check.
Please be sure that you are utilizing the latest update of Storyline 2, which is Update 7, and if so, you may consider a repair.
Hi Leslie,
Success. After cleaning up the import file and repairing Articulate SL2 it finally work.
Thanks for all the effort and support.
-One Happy camper.
Whew! I thought we were gonna get stumped with our varying behavior :) Glad it's working for you now. Thanks for the update Willie.
