SL is sloppy when importing slides... it often (usually?) creates a duplicate master for the imported slides... even when the imported slides were saved from the current set for separate development.
Is this a known issue and is there any workaround or plans to address this?
Yes, if you're importing slides from another project, they'll import the masters used as well. Even if those masters were the same set up as the existing project, Storyline doesn't know that based on their layout or the name so it'll carry all the elements over.

That's the way it works. It takes an extra step to get rid of the duplicate masters.
I've been able to import many SL files that use the current master without duplication.
The duplication seems to be triggered only when SL believes the masters are different.
