In need of some advice

Jul 30, 2014

Hello all, I have been creating a Storyline based student orientation for several months now and have just been notified that responses from test questions sprinkled throughout it needs to be gathered somehow and sent to an email address.

So, basically once a student completes the orientation, they do a final exam, then this completed exam is sent upon submission to an email address with data in tact. The person on the other end keeps the data and then is able to let the student know they have completed the task and can then move onto "whatever".

Is this possible with Storyline? For some reason I am feeling there has to be some type of database behind the interface in order to collect this type of data, but may be wrong.

Any thoughts or suggestions would be fantastic and save me a lot of frustration.

Hi Linda and welcome to Heroes!

Are you hosting your course on a web server instead of an LMS? Typically it would be an LMS that would handle the collecting and gathering of data and share it with an administrator/manager. We don't officially support reporting or tracking to a database or excel document, although I have seen examples of this in the forms.

It's also worth noting that we don't have an email results feature from Storyline, but you could include a print results button on your results slide that would create an HTML file that the user would then be able to save, print, email if so desired. That won't happen automatically, so it'll rely on the user completed those additional steps, but it may be worth investigating. I'd just make sure to include some prompts on the screen about what they need to do.

Hope that helps!
