You should not face any problems doing this, the .story file should load the same way no matter where it came from.
You may need to make adjustments if the .story file came from an older version, or if you are using an older version than the one it was created in. Generally though it should work fine.
I'd also check that you're using the latest update and then that if you need to share files back and forth that you do so following the guidelines here and look at confirming that you're both using the same update going forward.

Storyline 2 is the latest version update 7 is the latest release of that version.
Also if there are any custom fonts used in the file you will need to have those installed on your machine prior to opening SL
