Inserting a Character causes Storyline to crash

May 31, 2012

Yesterday, I experienced an issue where I attempted to insert a Photographic Character into one of my Storyline slides.  After selecting "Photographic", Storyline freezes up.  I then have to do a cntrl-alt-delete to force Storyline to shut down.  Same thing happened when I selected "Illustrated" from the Character drop down.  This morning I uninstalled both the character bundle and Storyline to see if that would resolve the issue.....still crashing.  Does anyone have any other suggestions on how I can resolve this?  I'm running Windows 7 on my PC.  Thanks!

Everyone - I worked on a project using an imported PowerPoint and inserted a Quiz Slide and succesfully Inserted a Character on the slide. No Problems. When I opened the Project the next day and tried to insert a character on another page, it just beeps at me and will not do anything. After hitting ctrl-alt-delete I get a window asking if I want to save my project. I even tried a new project and still get a freeze every time I try to insert a Character.

Ok, it looks like shutting down my computer completely and re-booting it did the trick which was suggested by Articulate Support.  However, after closing the Storyline project and re-launching it, I experienced the same issue again when trying to add a new character.  Basically, I have to shut down and re-boot everytime I try to add a new character to a project.  I'm waiting to hear back from the support staff about this issue.

Same issue.  I click on the slide, then click Insert Character.  Neither option of photographic or illustrated works.  As soon as I choose, it seems like the program is trying to open another window.  I looked for it to see if it was hidden somewhere but didn't see it.  After I CTRL-ALT-DEL, a window pops up and says Articulate is waiting for a response from me.  That's what made me think there must be some other window trying to pop up somewhere.  Frustrating.

What happened to me is that my monitor setting on my laptop was set to "extend the display". So the character pop-up window was going to an extended display that did not exist at the time. When I chose the "disconnect projector" or "duplicate display" settings, I was able to see the character window.

I had the same symptoms as everyone else is describing, and that fixed it!

I'm having the same issue.  I am on a laptop with Windows 7.  I usually have an extended desktop at work but am now trying to work from home on a single display and am having the same issues as above.  When I looked at my graphic properties it responded by showing that it was rendering on a single display (laptop screen).

I believe it has to do with the extended desktop, but I don't know how to move the pop up screen back to just the main display.  As a workaround, I'm duplicating an existing character and changing it to what I need.

I have finally fixed the issue on my Laptop running Windows 7. We tried reinstalling Styoryline and then reinstalling Storyline under a different administrator and that worked. This was done with the advice of Articulate Support. However, when I logged in as me again, I still had the problem. So, my IT folks went into my User Profile and cleaned it up and deleted all temp files and stuff and it worked! All fixed!! It appears as though all you probally need to do is clean up your User Profile.

Good Luck!
