Inserting Variable into Text Box

Aug 01, 2023

Hi there - need a lot of variable help. I used a co-workers completed project as a template for my new course. The user is to review a policy then go through 3 scenarios (built as different scenes) and then get to a final few "Scenario Results" slides (built as a new scene). In my co-workers version (A), hers has a nice 0% variable that will change depending on how the user did. In my version, (B) the variable does not exist so it spells out the whole thing. I don't see the variable in the list, and the project's question slides (C) are programmed to correlate to the results slide. What is going wrong? I am so lost. And so inexperienced with variables lol

Hi Ashlyn,

I'm happy to help, and thanks for sharing the screenshots! The RapidResponse.ScorePercent variable in your colleague's project was created when they added the related Result slide. Storyline creates built-in variables when a Result slide is created.

You can add a new Result slide to your project first so you'll also have your version of the variables, then use your colleague's slide layout as a pattern by copying the objects to your new Result slide. We have an article that you can use for reference:

If you need additional help, we'd be happy to look at your Storyline file and make further recommendations. You can upload it here or privately in a support case. If you can also share your colleague's project as a template, that would be best. We'll delete them when we're done.

Also, I wanted to invite you to our tips and tricks webinars. It's an excellent opportunity to learn about variables and other topics offered. Once each month at 11am ET, our training team hops on a live call to answer top questions from our customers.

It's super casual (and they're super smart!), so it's a great place to get expert tips and answers to frequently asked questions from our online community. In short, everything you need to create incredible online learning! You can register for the next call here.

And don't worry if you can't make it, because everyone who registers will get a recording sent to them afterwards! There's also a huge list of on-demand past trainings available.

Hope to see you there!
