Interactive video on iPhone

Aug 17, 2015

Hi all,

I've created an interactive video with markers, hotspots, etc. that works like a dream on PC  - here's the rub. I need it to work on mobile (iPhone, Android) with the same functionality. I tried viewing it from SCORM Cloud on my iPhone 5 and the video overlays disappear entirely  with the video playing alone in a separate window. How can I get my interactivity to work???

Hi Marcela,

You may find that videos expand to fill the screen when viewed in mobile Safari on iPhones.

This is expected behavior. Mobile Safari automatically scales videos to fit the screens of smaller devices, such as iPhones. (See Apple's developer documentation for details.)

If you need to avoid this behavior, we recommend viewing courses with videos on larger screens, such as iPads, laptops, and desktop computers. Or, create a simplified version of the course that doesn't include videos for iPhone users.

Hi Ashley, I appreciate your response. Sadly, the vehicle for this content is entirely interactive video - hence a more simplified version sans video is not at all an option. What is the roadmap here? I ask because I've been given the impression that there is an interest in highlighting interactive video as a feature of Storyline (some emails I've received recently present tutorials.) Surely, there's a plan to make this functionality consumable on iPhones?

Also, as a side note, I did a search on the App Store for the Articulate Mobile player and it won't come up. Has it been discontinued?

Hi Marcela,

If you need to display on the iPhone, there isn't much we can do in terms of changes within Storyline as documented above that's how the iPhone and mobile Safari will work with videos.

The Mobile Player is currently only available for iPad or Android tablets, so that is likely why you're unable to find it when searching in the App store. I know users have discussed having a mobile player for the iPhone or other Android phones, so you'll want to share your thoughts on that as well in the form of a feature request here as well.
