Is the 'Resources' feature accessible?

Is the 'Resources' feature in the Storyline Player accessible? I've used it in a recent course and from some feedback I've got it doesn't seem to be.

Hi Brian,

Are you not seeing the selection box for accessibility through the resources menu? If you hit "Tab" through a slide, it should make its way through the content, then the player elements. If you tab over to the Resources menu, then hit the "Space" bar to select it, it should expand and select the content in the list.

If you test this with your project, do you see the same thing?

Thanks!

Hi Christine,

Thanks for your reply! I got feedback fom someone using JAWS for Windows and for some reason their feedback was that they couldn't access the Resources. I've just tested it using your above guidance and all seems to work as described. What I couldn't do however, is get the yellow box to highlight individual elements within the Resources list. How does the user pick out an individual element in the Resources list.

Anyway it seems like it is workign the way it should. I'll see if the user can test again.

Thanks again for your help,

Brian

Hi Brian!

Thanks for getting back to me :)

I'm seeing the same thing at the moment too - I can select and expand the Resources list, but I do not see a way to select a single item in the list to launch it.

I've reached out to my colleagues to see if there's some information on this, or if this is even possible.

Thanks!

Hi Brian,

I just heard back from my colleague, Brian Batt - who is a awesomely wonderful rock star.

You can select these items in the Resources list. In order to do so, you'll need to "Tab" and select the Resources tab.

Once that's selected, hit "Space" to expand the menu.

Once the list is open, press the "Down" arrow key on your keyboard. This will select the first item in the list. You can continue moving through the list, or hit the "Space" bar again to select the item.

Pretty simple once you know the trick - but I didn't think about using the arrows at all :)

I hope this helps!

Let me know if you have any questions.

Hi Christine,

I've been testing some Storyline courses using JAWS screen reader (version 15.0.625), but can't always seem to be able to get into the Resources list.  It opens-up fine (using 'spacebar' to expand the menu), but it's the next step that seems a bit inconsistent.  Sometimes it's tricky actually getting into the list and scrolling through the list using the 'up/down' arrows on the keyboard.

JAWS also doesn't seem able to read out any of the items actually in the Resources list.  So users with visual impairments won't have any way of knowing what's actually in the Resources list and what they're selecting.

Is this a known issue and are there any plans to make the Resources/Glossary lists fully accessible?

Would be grateful for any guidance you can offer as we're developing courses for a global audience of over 100,000 people and accessibility is an absolute must.

Many thanks,

Gillian
