Is there a way to trigger the player topics with a custom button?

I would like to turn off the topics from showing in the Player but be able to trigger the topics drop-down using a custom button from the Master page. Is there a way to accomplish this? Otherwise, I'm going to have to create a topics drop-down from scratch (very time consumming).
