Is there any way to restore a corrupted SL2 file?

Jun 14, 2016

Help! I am very hopeful that there is a member in the community who can advise about how to restore a corrupt SL2 file.  When trying to open a file that I was working on today, I now see a message that reads "This project is invalid or corrupt and cannot be opened. It may have been created in an earlier version of Storyline."

It was created with SL2.

Fingers crossed,

Tara

Hi, Tara -- Thanks so much for your question and I'm really sorry to hear of your troubles! There is a chance it could be corrupt beyond recovery. However, there may still be a working version of your project in your temp files. Here's how to check:

1) Open this folder in Windows Explorer: %appdata%\Articulate\Storyline

2) Scan the contents of this folder for a file that starts with the name of your project. If you find one, copy it to your desktop. If you find more than one, copy the latest version to your desktop.

3) Change the file extension of the copy on your desktop from *.tmp to *.story.

4) Double-click the file to open it in Storyline.

Looks like it is user error, I left the file open and undocked my computer while going between meetings.  There is no .tmp file or previous versions saved by windows, and my back up is a week old. Ahhhhhhh!  Lesson learned. Thank you for your help.  I did submit the file to Articulate Support just in case there are any magicians on staff. :)!
